Making Virtues a Daily Part of Your Family Life

Family

One of your most important responsibilities as a parent is to pass your faith and values on to your children. It may also be one of your most challenging tasks. A shocking turn of events at the 2008 Summer Olympics illustrates why.

Both the U.S. men’s and women’s 4 x 100 relay teams were expected to compete for the gold medal. Instead, neither team made it to the finals. Their exit from competition wasn’t because another country outran them.

Experiencing God’s Healing Hand

Healing

Have you ever witnessed a miraculous healing? You’re about to!

On our Focus on the Family Broadcast “Experiencing God’s Healing Hand,” you’ll hear the actual moment when Pastor Duane Miller’s throat was healed, after three years of only being able to speak in a whisper.

In January 1990, Duane became sick with influenza. He spent 10 days in bed with his throat swollen shut as if someone was squeezing his windpipe. Medication helped, but for three years, Duane could only whisper.

Taking Steps to Live Out Your Dreams

Celebrating

The death of a dream can be painful and disorienting, but it can also open the door for even better ones to come along.

Over a decade ago, author Kathi Lipp went through a painful divorce and became a single mom. She felt disillusioned, believing that her dreams of someday becoming an author and a speaker could never happen. But God taught her that He could do more than she ever thought possible. Through what seemed like insignificant choices at the time, God opened doors and brought her dreams back to life.

The Timeless Truth of Christ

Ellie Lofaro

God wants to help you become an overcomer.

Like Joni Eareckson Tada. At 17, she dove into shallow water and surfaced a paraplegic. For nearly 50 years now, Christ has worked through her story to encourage others with disabilities similar to hers.

Or like the late Louis Zamperini. As detailed in Unbroken, the book and Hollywood movie about his life, he was shot down in World War II and barely survived 40 days adrift at sea.

Sharing Your Faith with Grace and Purpose

Friends talking

Focus on the Family serves the culture according to five foundational pillars. The first pillar is evangelism and discipleship.

Many Christians shy away from evangelism these days. Sharing one’s faith seems more difficult than ever. We don’t want to take an aggressive, “in your face” approach, so we swing the pendulum the other way and become silent, “undercover Christians.”

Is there a middle ground?

Greg Koukl is our guest on our Focus on the Family Broadcast “Finding Peace in Your Everyday Life.” He is an apologist and the founder and president of Stand to Reason ministries.

Tanner Cross’s Reinstatement is a Victory for the Christian Faith and the Constitution

Byron “Tanner” Cross is the type of physical education instructor you want teaching your children.

At 38 years of age, the Leesburg Elementary School PE teacher in Loudon County, Virginia, is committed, energetic, enthusiastic and deeply principled – a man who refuses to bow to “woke” politics and propaganda.

So, perhaps it’s no surprise that Mr. Cross found himself wrapped up in controversy last month after objecting to his school district’s new transgender policy.

In short, he refused to call boys “girls” and girls “boys.”

And for that, he was suspended and threatened with losing his job altogether.

Finding Peace in Your Everyday Life

Finding peace

One busy weekday morning, author Kay Wyma was backing out of her driveway when a big truck barreled down the road and forced her to the shoulder.

Frustrated and annoyed, she took a deep breath and realized that she had a choice: she could choose to wallow in her anger and frustration, or she could choose to be thankful that no one, including herself, had been injured.

Instead of condemning the truck driver, Kay felt compassion for him, wondering what kind of bad day he was having that would cause him to drive so recklessly.

Quitting Isn’t an Option: My Life as a Navy Seal

Navy Seals

We’re commemorating Memorial Day on our Focus on the Family Broadcast “Quitting Isn’t an Option: My Life as a Navy Seal.” We’re airing the testimony of Chad Williams, who was transformed from a college dropout to one of America’s most elite military operatives – a Navy SEAL.

Chad’s story illustrates the grueling process of becoming a SEAL, the dedication of our military men and women, and honors American heroes who have died for our freedoms, including his beloved SEAL training coach, Scott Helvenston, who died tragically after redeploying to Iraq.

Bringing Purpose and Power to Your Prayer Life

Prayer

Today is the National Day of Prayer.

If you’re not familiar with it, this annual observance is held on the first Thursday of May and invites people of all faiths to pray for the nation. It was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman.

In honor of today, I hope you’ll tune in for a special edition of our Focus on the Family Broadcast we’re calling “Bringing Purpose and Power to Your Prayer Life.”

Our guest is Kathi Lipp, who will help listeners learn how to pray diligently for themselves and others.

Finding God’s Beauty in Alzheimer’s and Dementia

Elderly woman

Dementia is one of the most difficult issues that families face today because the diagnosis is often a surprise, even though the statistics surrounding it are staggering.

Dementia is the general term for deterioration in memory and thinking, behavioral processing, and the ability to perform everyday tasks for yourself.

Sarah Smith, our guest on our Focus on the Family Broadcast “Finding God’s Beauty in Alzheimer’s and Dementia,” was shocked when her fiercely independent mother – nicknamed Beauty – was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s.
