“The Drop Box” started its three-day limited run last night showing to capacity crowds and exceeding all expectations. We are humbled by this response and overwhelmed by God’s graciousness.

All in all, the film debuted in 727 theaters across all 50 states. More than 100,000 tickets have already been sold. The response was so great many people were shut out of the film last night, so I encourage you to reserve your spot for tonight and tomorrow before more showings sell out!

Indiana Considering Its Own Drop Box

Image of baby's feet from The Drop Box documentary trailer

As the team here at Focus gears up for the big debut tomorrow of our second film, “The Drop Box,” news that Indiana is considering the legalization of “baby boxes” made headlines late last week.

The Associated Press is reporting that these boxes might soon be available at hospitals, fire stations and churches across the state giving “mothers in crisis a way to surrender their children safely and anonymously.”

The proposed legislation serves as a reminder that the issues and themes “The Drop Box” examines – desperate mothers, vulnerable babies, the sanctity of life, the need for compassionate “fathers” – are universal.

Moving Video Shows the God behind “The Drop Box”

In a powerful review of “The Drop Box,” Focus’ newest movie, World Magazine wrote it “shows that Lee—once a dirty-tempered, skirt-chasing drunk—would never have saved a single baby’s life if not for a love that flows from a higher source.”

Indeed, the purpose of the film isn’t to elevate a man. It’s to elevate the God that man serves – the One who empowers people like Pastor Lee to love for others beyond their natural abilities.

Fans of “The Drop Box” Buying Out Theaters

The movie doesn’t debut for another two weeks, but already “The Drop Box” is selling out theaters in cities like Los Angeles, Atlanta, San Diego, Miami, Denver, San Antonio, Phoenix, St. Louis and right here in Colorado Springs.

We’re really encouraged by this positive response to the film that we’ve produced in partnership with Kindred Image. Church and community leaders are purchasing group tickets or even buying out theaters so they can help spread the important message this movie brings.

Praise Pours in for “The Drop Box”

The list of faith leaders endorsing “The Drop Box,” Focus on the Family’s second movie, is long and diverse.

Those who are enthusiastically throwing their support behind the film include both evangelical and Catholic. They’re known for advocating on behalf of the pre-born. They are proponents of adoption, special needs, and social justice.

It’s rare for a documentary to receive endorsements from such a wide array of sectors.

To us, it’s a confirmation that God’s in this movie.

Gold Medalist Scott Hamilton, Wife Adopt Two Children

Gold-medal-winning Olympian Scott Hamilton and his wife, Tracie, recently doubled the number of children in their family. The couple, who already have two biological children, adopted a brother and sister from Haiti, reports The Today Show.

The Hamiltons first learned of Evelyne, 11, and Jean Paul, 13, two years ago in the wake of the devastating earthquake that hit the island nation through Tracie’s volunteer work. Tracie quickly fell in love with the pair after visiting one particular Hatian orphanage.

Be a Part of Focus Conference Recognized as a “National Best Practice”

Husband, wife and adopted daughter

Since 2008, 2,774 families have initiated the process of adoption from foster care as a result of the collaborative efforts of our Wait No More program. It’s been amazing for us to see that many of these families are choosing to adopt hard-to-place kids like older children, sibling groups or those with special needs.

Results like this are the reason why the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute has named Wait No More a national best practice in foster care adoption recruitment.

An Interview with Casting Crowns’ Mark Hall

Mark Hall from the Casting Crowns

Since the self-titled debut of Casting Crowns‘ first album was released in 2003, the band has enjoyed great popularity among Christian audiences – but not for reasons you’d might expect.

Instead of light-hearted songs that only scratch the surface of our faith, Casting Crowns specializes in delivering hard-hitting hits meant to challenge listeners – and the larger Christian community – in our walks. The band regularly explores themes of holiness, relationships, witness and vulnerability in a way that encourages self-reflection.
